How to make Paper Heart Garland
This Valentines Day Crafts idea was just right up my alley for décor because this Paper Heart Garland was easy, cheap and cute! And if you are like me you love to decorate for the holidays, and Valentines Day is no different!
Since I love to craft, I had all the supplies I needed in my stash. If you don’t have a stash of stuff, then you may need to get the supplies needed.
Here is a list of what you will need for this Valentines Day Crafts:
- Red, white or pink construction paper (I used a combination of red and white)
- Stapler
- Scissors or rotary blade (I used a rotary blade for smooth sides)
- Ruler and cutting board (if you are using a rotary blade like I did you will need the cutting board)
- Hole punch
- Twine (I used brown, but white would be cute too!)
So now that we have your list of supplies gathered, let’s get to creating our paper heart garland.
Here we go:
Cut your pieces of construction paper into 1” strips-use the small side of the paper (9” side of the construction paper)
Fold your strips into half
Take the ends of the folded strip and turn them in towards each other, this will make your heart shape!
This step is kind of tricky…but gently pull your end out from the center of your heart shape with the end even and hold, but DON’T bend!
Once you have your ends even. Place them outwards under the stapler and staple in the middle of the strip, up the strip about half an inch.
Gently pull your ends back into the shape of a heart (I creased the bottom fold again once I shaped the heart)
Now, just get to stapling all of your folded strips into the hearts for your Valentines Day Crafts. The amount of hearts that you make depends on how long you want to make your garland. I made mine to drape across the top of a hutch that I have in my dining room. So I made 23 hearts! You just have to measure where you are hanging your paper heart garland.:) And then just go for it!
Next…
Take your hole punch and carefully punch holes in the sides of your hearts. Punch your holes even with the center of the heart. Then punch a hole in the center of the heart through both layers. (now do this for every heart♥)
Once your holes have been punched, then you are going to measure out your twine for the area that you are hanging your garland. Add 4” to that measurement so that you can have a 2” over hang on each side for tying a knot and hanging.
Now start stringing the twine through the hearts. (I alternated mine red then white, but you can do your own design and color combo any way you would like) Be very carful not to tear the hearts as you string them on the twine.
Push your hearts together carefully and just keep stringing until you reach your maximum measurement.
Once they are all strung tie a knot in the end of the twine to keep the hearts from falling off the twine. This way if you happen to drop the garland, like I did, you won’t have to restring your hearts!! Hahaha, I had to restring a few, lesson learned to tie that knot!
And viola you are done! You have the cutest Valentines Day Crafts ever in your paper heart garland!
I think this gives any area that you decide to hang your paper heart garland a rustic farmhouse charm style look for Valentines Day.
